Christmas 2013

Merry Belated Christmas if you're reading this!

On the night of Christmas eve, Daddy Li and I kind of had this feeling that Kaitlin would wake up early on Christmas Day, and she did! This girl always wakes up early when she doesn't have school and on school days she refuses to wake up. I'm pretty sure if you're a parent, this is familiar to you.

So while I got Kaitlin to start eating her brekkie, Daddy Li got changed into Santa Claus! Yes! Santa delivered presents to Kaitlin on Christmas morning. A little different from the usual tradition of Santa bringing presents before Christmas morning, but this way Kaitlin could get to see Santa up close.

We aren't sure if Kaitlin knows that it's indeed Daddy Li under the costume, but she was just pretty neutral about it. She wasn't terrified, but neither was she keen on saying Hi to Santa. She did want the presents though!

After breakfast, we showered and headed for our Christmas Day brunch at Spruce at Phoenix Park.

Food and service wasn't fantastic and in fact we felt it was worse than our first visit, so I doubt we'll be returning to Spruce anytime soon. Other than that, we had a nice time just chilling as a family together and watching Kaitlin nom on pancakes (which really weren't that great).

After brunch, we did some grocery shopping cos Daddy Li and I were going to cook Christmas dinner together! It was kind of like our couple bonding activity. We went home, and a cranky Kaitlin had her nap.

We had wanted to start prepping dinner before she woke up, but this little girl got up earlier than usual so we just made do and prepared our ingredients for dinner while entertaining her.

We popped out of the house for a little while to rent some dvds and to get a little snack (yay orh luak!). Kaitlin wanted to have some watermelon, so I got her a slice and she finished everything that was on the plate! We rushed home after and started cooking dinner.

We made cream of corn soup and steak with a huge a** bowl of mushroom sauce. For desserts (didn't take a picture!) we had chocolate fondue with strawbies, kiwi and blueberries! Though Daddy Li and I didn't talk and joke around much while cooking (at first my tummy was feeling unwell and then later on we were in serious mode rushing to finish cooking dinner!), I super love the bonding time we had. We should totally do this again hubs *winks*!

After all of that, we showered Kaitlin and accompanied her to sleep. Daddy Li and I ended the night off watching one of the dvds we borrowed.

It wasn't a happening Christmas, like we weren't out and about much and celebrating but it was sure nice to be able to spend time with Kaitlin and Daddy Li. This is family life isn't it? You skip the parties that are fun and sometimes might be memorable and instead spend time with the people that matter most, and those are the memories that are really going to last a lifetime and that you'll always treasure close to your heart.

I won't lie, I do miss the parties and hanging out at night without having to worry about anything at all. I could do that now if I wanted, but I know full well that I could never be really happy or not feel worried cos Kaitlin would be at the back of my mind. It might sound like I'm the one that has separation anxiety issues, but really..once you've your own child, one that means the world to you and that you can't help but love and care for unconditionally, everything is different. But definitely different in a good way and I wouldn't exchange this family and this life for anything else.

Snowy Fun at Tanglin Mall

It's kind of been (and I hope it will continue to be!) a tradition for us to head to Tanglin Mall during the festive season to catch some "snow".

We had a fun time with Kaitlin riding her scooter to Tanglin Mall and then when we got there she was pointing out the Snowman, Santa Claus, Horse etc to us and getting a wee bit excited! Though Kaitlin isn't too crazy about the snow, this year she seemed to be less afraid of it. In fact, at times when we are home she'll talk about it.  I think she liked the decorations and statues more than the snow..but well there will be many more years ahead. Perhaps in a few years even if I want to go home, she'll want to stay and play with the snow!

If you're interested to bring your kids to check out the snow and take pictures with the beautifully decorated place, it's still not too late to do so!

Till Jan 1st, there'll be an avalanche and snow session everyday. On weekends and public holidays, there will be two more sessions. Of course this will be subjected to weather conditions. There will also be a Santa's workshop till Christmas Eve where kids get to take photos with Santa Claus.

For more info on the snow timings and Santa's workshop, head on over here. Happy Holidays!

November [ in pictures ]

We're into the final month of the year!! I would love to feel a little bit more "Christmas-sy", but the truth is that this year I feel like we are so busy we don't have time to bask in all that Christmas joy and fun. I'm contemplating letting Kaitlin skip a few days of school just so that we could all enjoy a little more (going to play with fake snow at Tanglin Mall, seeing the Christmas lights along Orchard Road etc. + some hot cocoa and snuggling under the blankie for all three of us) and sleep and wake up late..but we'll see about that.

November has been a great month except for us falling ill and passing it to one another and it's not ending at all! It's like a horrible vicious cycle :( Kaitlin has also been terribly cranky and rebellious this month. I thought we had already seen the worst of the Terrible Twos..but oh my..I surprised there's more. Really hoping this will be all over soon and I can get my forever sweet and angelic little girl back. I still love her lots..but you know sometimes..she really knows how to drive you up the wall with that attitude and spunk of hers.

We started off the month happy, with a surprise staycation for the husband..it was sort of a good getaway for us all even though it lasted only a day! November ended on a sweet note as we watched K's first ever school performance. So exciting!! I honestly think I was more excited than her. She did fabulous, and even if I sound bias, I've to say she was pretty kick-ass awesome this whole school year. More about that in another post cos it totally deserves a post on it's own.

Our Christmas tree is up, except for that shiny star that has to go right up..but I'm not gonna let that and our busy lives stop us all from feeling the Christmas spirit! I'm gonna be a mommy on a mission - getting the whole family excited for Christmas and tying up as many loose ends before the year ends..just cos certain things have been dragging on wayyyyy too long.

In any case...HAPPY DECEMBER ALL and enjoy this special time of the year :)

Christmas 2012

It's been days since my last blog post! I apologise as I've been busy spending time with the family and enjoying the Christmas holiday :D + we've all been down with a terrible cold :(

I hope your Christmas celebration with your loved ones were great.  We didn't do anything fancy this year, but I was happy with the way we spent it. None of the overrated stuff, just us and the baby girl doing our usual.

I cooked us a Christmas Eve dinner and here's the baby girl joining us! She actually had her dinner earlier on, but we didn't want to leave her out so she got some puffs and biscuits!

That white speck on her cheek is like her food -.- She's such a funny girl sometimes. Anyway! Back to the dinner. I tried all new recipes, meaning I had never cooked them before, and thankfully they turned out okay. I wouldn't say fantastic, but it was decent enough to eat!

This is the Roasted Butternut Squash soup with toasted butternut squash seeds

This soup was hard work! I don't think I will be making it anytime soon even though Daddy Li said it was yummy. Thankfully Kaitlin napped for an hour (all thanks to Daddy Li!) after Ronald visited us to pass us presents! Thank you Ronald :D and I had that one hour of time to quickly cook everything. It was a mad rush and luckily almost all was done when she woke up.

Of course when she woke up she clinged onto me like a koala so I had to get Daddy Li to help me with the layering of the lasagne! I must say he did a good job there!

Here's our dinner! Roasted Butternut Squash soup  + Tomato and Basil Salad with Mozzarella cheese and Balsamic Vinaigrette + Beef Lasagne + Watermelon and Strawberry Salad

I also wanted to get us a roast chicken from the supermarket but luckily I didn't cos there was too much food and we couldn't finish.

The rest of the night was spent chilling at home. Daddy Li and I stayed up till midnight to wish each other Merry Christmas, and then we KO-ed after #growingold

I told Kaitlin to try and sleep through the night if not Santa wouldn't come and she would instead get all her Christmas presents stolen. Obviously that didn't work and she still got to open her presents after brekkie.

She opened her first present, and was immediately in love with it that she didn't even bother opening the rest. In fact, there are still two more presents for her under the Christmas tree waiting to be opened!

After all the present opening, we headed out for Christmas brunch!

Mandatory Christmas day shots. In fact they were the only shots of us on that day! Kaitlin got bored of taking photos hence the stoned face. She was probably thinking when am I gonna stop taking pictures already!

Brunch was at Prive. We were really looking forward to brunch there since our last visit a year ago, but to be frank, we were really disappointed. I ordered the pork belly with crackling skin and it did not crackle at all D:

Lihai got the wagyu burger. It wasn't fantastic, but decent at least.

Kaitlin slept through brunch even though it was rather noisy, and longer than usual as well so that was really good! When she woke up, we stopped by Toast Box so that we could feed her lunch.

Got us a pork floss thick toast to share. We hung around Vivo City for a little longer and then headed home cos I really could not take it already. The cold was getting to me and I was feeling extremely unwell.

Rested for abit when we got back and we had dinner then headed out to town to see why the roads were closed that evening. Turns out it was nothing much, but it was so insanely crowded with everyone taking pictures and crowding around buskers.

So that was basically how we spent our Christmas Eve and Christmas Dinner, and we are all still ill :(( It's driving me crazy cos I just want to get well already!

Friday Five - Christmas Desserts

We are only a few days away to Christmas!! It's so exciting, even though to be frank, I've got no concrete plans on my side. Haha but just the thought of Christmas coming makes me really happy :D I hoped the Friday Five Christmas themed posts in the past few weeks have helped you to get ready for Christmas in some way or other.

To end off the Christmas series, here are five super cute and super easy to make Christmas desserts that you could add to your Christmas brunch/lunch/dinner menu or even just a Christmas activity for you to do together with your family on Christmas day :) It's definitely something different than the usual log cake.

Here's wishing all readers a Merry Christmas filled with love, joy and peace! Let's all be thankful that the world has not ended (as according to the Mayan calendar) and be grateful for everything that we have. Enjoy your Christmas holidays guys :D

Friday Five - Christmas Wrapping

It has been an insanely busy week, and I'm so glad it's Friday. Well, kind of. I say kind of cos well time is ticking too fast, and it's almost X'mas and almost the end of the year. Noooooo...I still have so many things on my to-do list. Now is the time where I wish I have some super fancy device to stop time. Yes, I do know that it's near impossible for that to happen, but I can only hope.

Back to my point! Speaking of Friday, this week's Friday Five is all about wrapping those Christmas presents. If you still haven't started buying your presents..WHAT ARE YOU DOING? ARE YOU INSANE?! I say this only because well we all know how crowded town is gonna be with the days nearing to X'mas. Better start shopping for your presents especially since there are many great deals going all around the malls.

So well, if you are the kind who pays close attention to tiny details, and are most likely to be wrapping the presents yourself and enjoy personalising them here's are some easy-to-execute ideas I found over Pinterest:

Hope you like some of the ideas that I picked out, which can be useful for you not only during this festive season, but also for presents that you want to gift for birthdays/teachers' day/mother or fathers' day/any other day you feel like giving a present! All very easy to do in my opinion and don't cost much. Plus, it'll definitely be a statement present compared to the others! Also, if you are all about saving the trees and being eco-friendly, you can use fabric to wrap presents as well. Don't have to buy them..they can be scraps of pretty fabric from your stash.

All materials can be easily bought at stationery and art stores like Popular and Art Friend. You can head down to Bras Brasah and you should be able to easily find what you need. For fabrics, you can try Spotlight, Daiso, Textile Centre or the Arab street and Chinatown area.

Hope that helps you. If you've got a great DIY to share, just drop a comment below :) For more inspiration and other Christmas pins head on over to my Christmas Pinterest board. I'll be posting Christmas related pins all the way till Christmas Day :)

Friday Five: DIY Christmas Gifts

Out of ideas on what to gift your friends and loved ones, or on a tight budget? Or do those christmas gift sets filling the shelves not make "the perfect present"? Why not consider DIY-ing a christmas gift instead?

There are like a billion possible presents you can D-I-Y, but here are my favourites:

For the mom/wife or the friend who loves to cook:

For the friend who loves to look good, feel good and smell good:

For the husband/father/ or that quirky/hipster/guy friend:

For a baby or the expecting friend:

For the kids or anyone who loves their lego:

Hope that gives you some ideas on what you can DIY! It doesn't have to big or perfect, I'm sure whoever receives it will appreciate the thought and love that was put into the present. For more ideas, head on over to my Christmas Pinterest Board! I'll be pinning more Christmas-related pins up till Christmas so remember to check back or you can follow me for easy updates :)

Less than 20 days to X'mas! Are you in the festive mood already? I definitely am :D:D

Friday Five: DIY Christmas Ornaments

It's been a pretty busy and crazy week, so I'm sorry for the lack of posts. But, as promised I shall continue with the Friday Five Christmas Series :)

We've set up our Christmas Tree except for a few final touches which I hope will make our tree more special and meaningful to us. I'll snap a picture and show you guys the tree when it's all done. Meanwhile, I'm sure many of you would have been thronging shops buying Christmas ornaments and perhaps couldn't find something to make your tree unique or maybe you've already set up your trees, but it's lacking that something special...how about DIY-ing your ornaments?

It's a fun activity to do with kids (it could even be an advent activity), and no one else would have an identical ornament as you :D Plus, DIY-ing means spending less money on ornaments which have been crazily priced other than at Daiso. Here are five DIY Ornaments you could make together with your family and involve no or minimal sewing (great for ppl like me who can't sew for nuts!):

I love how some of these are so simple to do and yet they turn out so pretty at the same time! Sometimes less is more don't you think so? Plus, I love how you can recycle some items like bottle caps or even use your old ornaments to make new ones. So environmentally friendly and good for the pocket!

If you want to check out more DIY Christmas Ornaments, you can check out my Christmas board on Pinterest. Don't forget to follow me for more Christmas pins :) Have a great time welcoming the start of December and all things fun, festive and merry over the weekend xx

Friday Five - Christmas Advent Calenders

I'm sure everyone is starting to get into the Christmas mood, especially with all the streets and malls being decorated up and all the awesome Christmas gift sets on display + christmas sales starting!

So from now till the week of Christmas, I'll be posting Christmas related things for every week of Friday Five. Starting it off would be five of my favourite DIY Christmas Advent Calendars I've spotted on Pinterest!

If you don't know what an Advent Calender is..it's used to countdown the days to Christmas and is either filled with toys/gifts/activities to do together. Typically it's the usual cloth or paper chart, but I've come across alot of unique and pretty ways to do up your Advent Calender, you can check out more ideas over at my Pinterest (@beaverwoo)!

If you've got a DIY Advent Calendar to share or have come across any unique ones comment below :) Would love to check them out. Happy Weekend :)

christmas eve + christmas day

It's the third year that Lihai and I have spent xmas tgt! Only this year, it's a tad different! cos we've got Kaitxz!:)

Christmas eve was spent in town. Went out with Lihai's army friends to find presents for their gf and supposedly for me..which didnt happen cos we ended up at Sakae for quite a while. Brought Kaitzxz along as well! After that, we walked around town and went home to chill/nuah! Oh yes! I bought my hello kitty compact mirror! For some reason, they brought it in to SG! :D

On Christmas day, we went to MOF at Lot One for lunch! The food was pretty good :D Sadly, i didnt take any photos..other than a pic of Lihai's ramen, the soup damn good! Idk why whenever Lihai orders ramen, the broth is to die for! But when I order ramen, it's just okay! Even if it is the same ramen -.-

After lunch, we went back to nuah..wanted to bring Kaitxz down to play, but she was napping..so we didnt :( headed out in the evening for dinxz! Lihai brought me to HooHa! Cafe and it was really fun! Super chill night which we haven't had in awhile..or rather, our "special" occasions usually sees us at places like the flyer or at mt faber,  those kinda places, so it's great that it's a change! Esp since, I FINALLY GET TO EAT SEAFOOD! Yes!! How awesome! 100days, or according to Lihai 101 days! Hehe! So I ended up eating Jap food for 3 straight days, damn awesome pls. Although the first day I didn't realise I could alr eat seafood and during the lunch at MOF I also didnt realise I could even though Lihai says so but I didn't believe. I just couldn't resist all the yummilicious tempting items on the menu at HooHa! We skipped the usual appetizers, mains and desserts and ended up ordering like sides for dinner cos everything looked good! And and finally, I drank alcohol again! OMG. Sorry, this is probably damn wtf but, hello! I've abstained from alcohol + seafood for almost ONE YEAR!! Hello! That's bloody long, considering that I love seafood and I enjoy drinking! So yes, I was very happy that they served Erdinger! Love love! Ordered a bourbon coke as well!

Dinner wasn't very long cos we were worried about leaving Kaitxz for too long, so we went home after dinner. Got back home and cut the cake I bought in the afternoon! It is super cute okay! Frosty the snowmannn! :D Doesn't taste as good as it looks though..

Sorrs, damn lazy to rotate the photo haha! So, yes that's basically how we spent xmas this year :) It's currently 10.35pm on NYE..the year is ending pretty soon and it's

goodbye 2011, hello 2012!

Hope 2012 is gonna be a better year. Really do not need more "adventures" in my life. I think I've had my fair share of 'downs' this year, so I'm hoping 2012 will be a little bit more smooth sailing..that's really all I hope for. I do not need another mishap or setback to happen. Well, other than that I of course wish for more money as well heeehee!:D Hope your 2012 is gonna be awesome xx

all i want for christmas is you

christmas has come and gone..so fast!

well, here's how i spent the last few days..
23rd December
Finally met the girls + ronald for Christmas dinner! A few hiccups here and there:
1. The freaking heavy rain + massive jam causing huge delays
2. The freaking heavy rain causing poor karyan to be travelling ard and getting drenched
3. Accidentally breaking ronald's present..
4. Baby crying
5. Oven caused the electricity to go off for awhile
6. Oven causing spark sounds on the stove..like WTF?
7. Baby crying

Yeah, so basically as you can see..the baby cried quite a fair bit. I really do not understand why, but honestly it kinda pissed me off quite a fair bit..cos well, I haven't met all of them for really long..and we can finally sit down and have a meal..but so many things had to go wrong, and for some reason the baby could not be soothed..

Well, food was pretty good! Sorry for the lack of pics cos well..baby was crying and I had my hands full..sigh..but I guess you could use your fruitful imagination to picture what dinner was like!
We had turkey with chestnut stuffing, honey baked ham and roasted pork knuckle! Not forgetting campbell mushroom soup and potato salad which was damn awesome imo.

We also surprised Ronald! Yes! Pretty early, but we celebrated his birthday! His birthday present haul included Tintin items! And it was really quite funny seeing how happy he was to receive Snowy, this soft toy! No offense, dont get angry if you read this Ronald..but haha, turning 28 and being really happy to receive a soft toy is quite funny! *judge judge* But of course, we are really glad he likes his presents! Not forgetting! Nutella tart as his birthday cake! Nomxz!

nutella tart!
(picture taken by Karyan)

Well, besides that..the awesome husband surprised me yet again! I kinda sensed it coming..but as the day was passing, and Kaitlin kept crying, I got really depressed..and as I was telling Lihai it didnt seem like a miracle was gonna happen..until..he appeared!:D Everyone knew, except me..I was thinking to myself if he is gonna surprise me, will he just tell me he is coming home so I can stop feeling so annoyed and depressed..or if anyone knew..would they tell me. But of course no one did..tsk! Literally jumped onto Lihai when I saw him..think everyone was judging..but sorry lah, 2 weeks never see him right..ended up tearing a lil as well..emotional and sensitive like that okay!

yupp! as you can see..after all that ruckus..she finally got tired..and the boy was sleepy as well..so i ended up looking after Kaitxz in the middle of the night! So much for night duty ah! it never happened! shall continue on about xmas eve and xmas in my next post! this is too exhausting alr + i got some other stuff to do ^^

christmas dinner

Currently waiting for Ronald to pick Kaitlin and me up to go back to my place for Christmas dinner tonight:))

Yayy! Finally meeting up with all these awesome people!:

It will be Kaitlin's first Christmas!Although she can't eat turkey and all..i guess she can watch! haha!:) Lihai won't be back till tmr though..so that's quite bleak, but omg omg I can't wait for tmr to come!:)) 2 weeks of not seeing him! D: and worse still, he only gets to book out at 8pm on xmas eve! WHAT RUBBISH IS THIS RIGHT? As he says, "those stupid loners don't need to spend christmas" that's why! Rawrxz.

BRUNCH MUNCH

Harro! Been awhile since my last post! So here are some updates!

On Saturday, after Lihai ended his driving revision lesson I met him in town for brunch!:) Headed over to PS. Cafe at Palais Renaissance. Was craving truffle fries the previous night, hence we went to settle my craving!:D Ordered the PS Brunch Burger and Truffle Fries! Omg it was so much that we couldn't finish the fries! Luckily we didn't order a brunch main each!

After brunch, we headed over to UOB bank at Scotts to open a joint savings account! About time! We were planning to do it since like at least 6 months ago -.- finally getting it settled! For some reason, we ended up spending 2 hours there, listening to the banker tell us about savings and all that.. -.- should've just said no to listening. kinda realised it was a waste of time. not really a saver kinda person you see. saving has never really been my thing..I mean I rather not spend..or rather worker harder and earn more money to spend. I can't really force myself to like save up and then buy something. I would rather buy that something then replenish the money..you know what I mean? Okay, I think I just made the whole thing really confusing..

Well anyway, headed back home after..as usual it started to rain when we were gonna head home -.- hate the weather seriously! Took an afternoon nap and woke up to play with little Kaitlin. Had dinner, nuahed, watched some tv show, showered and headed out. Walked around town..and then went to the Jap sushi place at Cineleisure..we weren't being pigs okay! Just ordered a chawamushi, salmon sushi and age tofu. Took so freaking long for the food to come -.- like hello, 3 plates only! So we ended up missing probably like the first 10 mins of Twilight. After the movie, we went to get nuggets from Macs with the offer thingum! NOMXZ love Macs nuggets. Cabbed home, cos I was seriously too lazy to walk back..and we ended up eating nuggets and watching Material Queen. We have yet to finish even the first episode -.- cos either one or both of us will always be damn sleepy when watching it. Major fail. -.-

More about Twilight..Okay, seriously, the movie was really WTF?! Every year that Twilight comes out, Lihai and I will never fail to watch it together. Not that we are crazy fans or what, but we just like to watch it. It's like Harry Potter to us. Not huge fans, don't read the damn books, but we just watch the movie. Sad to say, it was really quite lame. Like I told Lihai, I might as well have watched a romance-drama kinda movie. Would be the same. Plus, fyi, it was the first movie we watched ever since I gave birth. Hello! Two freaking months plus, we didn't get to catch a movie, and when we do..it was just plain lame! Feel so cheated! :( Don't even know when we are gonna get the chance to watch our next movie! Zz. Omg, really want to catch Alvin and the Chipmunks 3! Another movie that Lihai and I always watch together..let's hope we get to watch it and it doesn't turn out lame!

Slightly a month less to Christmas! So eggciting! Even though, honestly, I don't know what are our Christmas plans. Might be really lame like sitting at home, watching T..stoning and looking after Kaitlin..well, hopefully, it shall be more exciting than that, but really..Lihai and I don't know what to do! Esp cos with Kaitlin now, we gotta look after her, and going out would be a hassle esp with so many ppl in town and all. Plus it's not very good for her to be outside at night, and if she cries and throws her hissy fit that would be a real bummer on Christmas..shall come up with an awesome Christmas plan..hopefully! Well..anyway..here's my second Christmas wishlist!:D hurhur!

Obviously, items that I can't get hold of in SG :( Sephora doesn't want to bring them in! Well at least for the Karl Lagerfeld nail polish I know they aren't bringing in, I think they are bringing in the eyeshadow though. Not like I'm gonna use the eye shadow but I just think the design in really cool, and I would totally just buy it to put at home and stare at..but that's just wasting money, so I shall not! The snowglobe would end up being another item on my shelf, and if I bought it and left it there Lihai would complain/nag..so if someone gives it to me, he can't say anything! *hint hint* *nudge* hurhur! But no lah, seriously..it's just an item on my wishlist, WISH..not a must-have. As for the Hello Kitty items, none of the stuff I want is available at Sephora in SG..checked twice already:(( sad face max.

Okay, shall stop here. Actually feeling rather annoyed + grumpy + angsty. Thanks to the nanny! Grr. Can't wait for her to be gone --> this coming Friday. But, then that means it's just Kaitlin and me. Either I stay at my place and it will just be the two of us, or I move back to my in-laws. Too many pros and cons. D: sigh. hate doing things I don't want to do. Can already sense that I'm gonna be VERY angsty and irritated with either decision that I make. -.- Seriously hope that Lihai will get an 8-5 vocation. Would seriously solve my problems. Time, pls move faster. Can't wait for him to POP. And omg, the dreaded 6 days when he will be at field camp is coming soon :( /wrists
