Thankful for...

It's Thanksgiving today, and honestly we don't celebrate it but I like to take this time to look back on the year and count my blessings. Of course, I strongly believe that being thankful for someone or something shouldn't happen only once a year but the fact is that we are all so caught up with everyday life that sometimes we overlook just how lucky we are. So I guess, in a way this is sort of a reminder to stop hating on life, and to really learn to be thankful for what we have.

I'm thankful for the same group of people that have been a constant in my life. Kaitlin and the husband, and of course my friends. I'm even more thankful for friends who I've not talked to for quite sometime, but are still able to maintain contact with.

I feel very blessed to be able to spend another year staying home to look after Kaitlin. It's a rare thing for someone my age to be doing, but I personally feel that it's the best way to bring up my child. I'm not saying I'm the best mom in the world or that I'm a MOM 101 guru, but I feel that nothing beats watching your child grow up everyday with your own eyes, and under your own care. This brings me to the point of how I'm thankful for Daddy Li's understanding and support in my decision.

Without doubt, I'm thankful for Kaitlin. So very thankful for her existence, her smiles and the joy that she brings us. Every kid cries and screams, and honestly no one likes it, and I even lose my patience at times..but in a sadistic kind of way I'm thankful for her tantrums and her stubborness. It reminds me so much of myself as a kid (I guess it's karma), but it has taught me so many things. Besides all the general baby/toddler caring aside, Kaitlin has made me learn to be a more patient person (I'm still impatient in general, but it's better!), to be more tolerant, to understand that things don't always go my way and that I've to just suck it up. It has taught me that even with your have a grand plan that you think is foolproof, it won't always work when your throw a kid into the equation and when that happens you just have to be flexible, deal with it and move on.

This year I'm thankful for my relationship with Daddy Li and our family. Daddy Li finally got out of army and is working and I'm just so thankful that we got through those two years of him in army with little fights and arguments and lots of 'give and takes' instead.

Well, that was pretty wordy and still I'm thankful for so many more things...but I think the rest I'll just make known to myself.

I think Thanksgiving is a great day to tell your loved ones just how thankful you are for them. It doesn't have to be on Thanksgiving day, it can be any other day or everyday, but if you haven't done so in awhile..why not take this opportunity to :)

Thankful for...

Today has been a tough day, to say the least. The day started off not too bad, but the last few hours was really a i-want-to-pull-my-hair-out moment. Babygirl refused to take her second nap and got real cranky, but all that's solved since she is fast asleep way beyond her actual bedtime. We finally have some peace over here, and although the day has been real tough, I still want to share how thankful I am for everything.

If you didn't know, today is Thanksgiving Day. Was going to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for us to sit down to just for us to have a nice meal together, but it's a little rushed and Daddy Li and I are falling ill so we decided to postpone it. I don't think many people celebrate Thanksgiving in SG, and neither do we since we do not have a specific belief. Nevertheless, I still feel there is no harm in giving thanks and I definitely want to bring Kaitlin up to be a person who will be grateful for what she has, and learns to appreciate it and not take all of it for granted. I certainly feel it is important to cultivate this. Even I, as an adult sometimes forget that I'm better off than many others, and really should quit whining and thinking about how "life sucks". I think it's normal for all of us to feel that way, and really, I find that the only way to pick ourselves up is to remind ourselves that many out there are having it worse than us, and that we should be thankful for what we have in our lives. No amount of shopping/smoking/drinking can really make us feel better when we are feeling like our lives are topsy turvy or going downhill.

Back to my point! Here's what I've been thankful for the past year..

THIS GIRL.

Look how much she has grown!!!
I don't think there is much to be said about this. It's pretty obvious how much joy she has brought into my life. At the end of any horrible day, when I see her sleeping by my side I feel like everything is okay, and worth it. She drives me insane and can really test my patience, but really, I've learnt to control my temper and chill with life a little bit more. With a baby, you can't really have a rigid timetable and plan, and it's more about going with the flow. I've learnt so much about parenting and motherhood, and how to juggle everything.  Being with her everyday, she has showed me so many things I've never thought of or that I've overlooked, all through her world. Take for example, the rain. I complain so much about it everyday, yet this girl loves it. She loves me holding her by the window and watching the rain, and she gets so happy about it. Simple things like the rain can make her happy?! That's amazing isn't it. What about us? What makes us happy? Buying a new bag or a new sporta car? Why can't we just sit down and watch the rain and notice how amazing nature is. Okay, don't get me wrong, I've not turned into some nature lover freak. I'm just saying..it's really nice to see the world through her eyes. I'm so thankful to have Kaitlin in my life. She really is the greatest gift.

Not forgetting, the husband aka the pillar.

From when Kaitlin was still in my tummy...to when Kaitlin is almost a year old! We have aged!! D: But I'm happy to age with you :D

Having him by my side certainly makes me feel better and he helps me in so many ways. Sometimes, even if he is dead tired and he is not helping me physically, it's still nice to have him around. I just feel more comfortable and I feel like I'm not in it alone :) Sure, he doesn't express his love much, but his tiny actions make up for it. Thank you for everything my love <3

My friends.

I don't have that many friends, but I am definitely thankful for the few close ones. We don't meet up much and we are busy with our own lives, but I'm so happy and thankful that we can still chat and understand each other and it does not get awkward at all. I love how we can be frank with each other and don't get upset, or even if we do, we know that what the other person was saying was probably true. They have been the ones by my side, through my toughest times and help me through it and were there to celebrate with me through my happiest moments. They are the most giving and generous people I know and they are all so sweet in their own ways <3

As for the other things I'm thankful about..I'm thankful for having relatives who still care about me despite some things that have happened. I'm thankful for having a roof over my head, and food on the table. This, I always remind myself to be thankful for. I'm thankful to have the life that I have now. There are tough days, but I wouldn't exchange it for anything else that I have in my life currently. I'm thankful for all the bad and tough times that I've had to go through. I've learnt so many new things, met so many different people, and learn to appreciate everything that I have even more and to be a stronger person. I'm thankful that this year has gone by pretty smoothly, especially compared to last year.

I'm sorry if this post was a little long and draggy, but I'm really thankful for all these people and things in my life, and that can't be compromised into a short post! Why not take some time to give thanks to the people closest to you? It wouldn't hurt and I'm sure everyone would be happy to be thanked, so SPREAD THE LOVE!!

By the way, it's my first time linking up with some of the mommies from Singapore Mom Bloggers. Do click on the links to hop on over to some of their blogs to take a peek into their lives :) Happy Thanksgiving!
